FAQ's for the Transportation Industry
How do I know if I need IRP Registration?
|
If you operate or plan to operate into 2 or more qualified jurisdictions on a regular basis, IRP Registration may be more cost efficient than trip permitting. Give us a call and we can look at your operations.
Do I need a DOT (Department of Transportation) Number?
|
Beginning January 1, 2003, all new motor carriers (private and for-hire) operating in interstate commerce must apply for registration (US DOT Number) as a "new entrant".
Do I need Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations (FMCSA) Authority?
|
If you are transporting passengers or property that is not considered "exempt" in Interstate Commerce, and you are for-hire, you need authority. In other words, if you are transporting across State/Province Lines, you are transporting in Interstate Commerce. There are a few exceptions to this rule. If you have questions, please give us a call and we can discuss your operations.
How long does it take to get IRP plates?
Once you have all your proper basing documentation, fees and we have reviewed the IRP requirements with you, we can have plates and temporary registration the same day. (There are some exceptions to this.)
Are the IRP plates all I need to put my vehicle on the road?
No, there are additional licenses and permits that are required; the license plate is just on of the requirements. Give us a call and we can discuss your operations and the different licenses and permits needed.
What is a BOC-3? | |||
Process Agents, listed on the BOC-3, will receive legal summons in any state for you. We will file a Process Agent form for you.
